Date 23 September 2009
As far as conversation topics go, most of us only get interested about data protection when we read about civil servants leaving highly confidential information on the 5.31pm out of Charing Cross.
However, the last 12 months of these headline-making mistakes have exposed the low priority that many organisations attach to protection of their operational information. And for an offence that carries an unlimited fine and could soon carry a prison sentence, UK plc should be worried.
Practical steps to meeting data protection obligations is the focus of a new SA Law-hosted breakfast seminar, “Is it safe? Are you secure?”, which will be held on Thursday 22 October 2009 at Beales Hotel in Hatfield. Free to attend, the seminar will cover three key aspects:
- Simple Compliance: SA Law’s data protection compliance guru Satinder Gill presents simple procedures by which organisations can meet their overall obligations.
- Human Resources: Employment specialist Chris Cook focuses on the hot points of holding employee data, including how to process requests and the storage of highly sensitive information.
- Marketing: Director of Marketing and Business Development Julie Gingell rounds off the session with a look at how to protect valuable customer databases, including the implications of buying information from an agency provider.
And, as always, free breakfast will be provided, which should cushion the pain of listening to an hour-long talk about data protection!
