Date 27 March 2007
With more and more businesses announcing carbon reduction and offsetting policies, the launch of the first Building A Low Carbon World Conference on 26 April 2007 has been described as a landmark event for the UK.
To be held at the Royal Geographical Society in London, the event will focus on the impact of urbanised environments and what measures can be taken to reduce the carbon footprint of existing and new developments.
Hosting the event is property development and investment company Quintain Estates and Development PLC, with support pledged from a number of other prestigious organisations including the organisers of the forthcoming ‘Live Earth’ concert series.
Lead consultants to the Building A Low Carbon World conference is SA Law client Carbon Global Limited – a digital communications consultancy based in London and Dubai.
“Industry is responsible for 70% of carbon emissions globally, of which 30 to 40% originates from urbanised environments,” explains Julian Roberts, a founding partner of Carbon Global. “This event is an opportunity for UK business leaders and community heads to focus on ways of reducing emissions whilst still delivering their financial and service mandates to clients, shareholders and communities.”
Chaired by James Naughtie of BBC Radio 4's ‘Today’ programme, Low Carbon World will feature a distinguished list of speakers and panellists that includes Ken Livingstone, Marks & Spencer CEO Stuart Rose and Jean-Paul Jeanrenaud – Head of Business and Industry for WWF International.
“The value of this inaugural conference is that it also marks the start of an initiative in itself,” adds Julian. “It will set a foundation for attendees to further their reduction and offsetting activities over the next twelve months. The 2008 event will subsequently chart progress against targets, report successes and communicate developments in best practice.”
