This November sees the return of the Smart Alec’s Quiz Night, which last year raised over £6,400 for Hatfield-based charity The Willow Foundation. Teams from across Hertfordshire and North West London are invited to join us for another night of fun, whilst we attempt to beat both the attendance figure and fundraising total.

Last autumn, 20 teams faced-off at Watford Football Club to battle it out over 7 gruelling rounds of questions. On Thursday 12 November 2009, the stage is set for the rematch, with all proceeds to be donated to The Willow Foundation again. But this year, we have a little surprise.

The Willow Foundation serves a national remit to provide special days out for 16 to 40 year-olds with life threatening illnesses. The charity was set up by Arsenal legend Bob Wilson and his wife Megs in memory of their daughter Anna who died of cancer aged just 31. Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, the charity has so far provided more than 5,000 morale-boosting special days.

The surprise treat for our teams is that Bob Wilson and his wife have just agreed to be honorary quizmasters on the night. So organisations get to raise money for an exceptional cause AND meet a footballing legend.

“These quiz nights are a fantastic, fun way to make a real difference to people's lives,” comments Bob Wilson. “And it's invaluable for us to have this support so that we can continue to provide special days for another ten years and beyond. On behalf of the Willow Foundation and the people who will benefit, thank you.”
