A warm welcome back for our latest edition of Stay Alert! Property News.
The team here at SA Law has been busy advising on a wide range of issues and has seen a steady, if not spectacular, improvement in market sentiment which we hope will be carried forward into the latter part of the year. Although economic conditions remain tough, it would seem that the risks of a double dip recession are receding - however, with public sector cuts starting to bite, we await the next quarterly set of GDP data with baited breath.
In this edition of Stay Alert! Property News:
- Gary Dunger will update you on recent changes in competition law and the potential impact on shopping centre developments
- John Moore reports back on our annual trip to Cannes for the MIPIM property conference
- Jacqui Button takes a further look at woes in the retail sector
- Meet our joint Head of Real Estate, Steve Kenneford in our regular question and answer session
- We introduce you to PCF Financial Services Limited who give their perspective on the current availability of commercial finance
We seek your help in support of The Peace Hospice in Watford
In our next edition of Stay Alert! Property News, scheduled for the summer, we will be focusing in on the development sector with particular emphasis on market commentary and legal updates. Before then let us hope the sun continues to shine!
Kind regards

Is this the End for Shopping Centre Exclusivity?
Until 6th April 2011 the Competition Act 1998 did not have effect with regard to agreements relating to land due to an exemption under that Act. This meant that the long established practice of entering into exclusivity agreements on sales and lettings continued unabated despite that Act coming into force. Here, Gary Dunger reviews what the recent removal of that exemption might mean for retailers and property owners.
