If
you believe your marriage is not valid for any reason, then you may be
able to have the marriage annulled. You can apply to have your marriage
annulled within a reasonable period of time.
The Court can grant a decree of nullity with decree nisi followed by decree absolute.
When can a marriage be annulled?
A marriage can be annulled in certain circumstances including if:
- It has not been consummated
- At the time of the marriage your partner was already married to someone else
- You have married a close relative (inter-married)
- Your partner had a venereal disease at the time which you were not aware of, but they were
- Your partner was pregnant with another person's child at the time which you were not aware of, but they were
- You were forced to marry against your will
